Dubai, 07 June, 2016: Emirates NBD, one of the leading banking groups in the region, today announced its collaboration with Uber, a smartphone app changing the way the world moves, to offer Emirates NBD cardholders free rides during the holy month of Ramadan. The digital promotion represents Emirates NBD’s consistent efforts to offer its growing number of mobile-savvy customers meaningful benefits enabled by the bank’s positioning as the preferred in-app payment partner, in the region.

After a successful charitable drive last year that saw over 1000 sunglasses collected by the bank internally, Emirates NBD and La Moda Sunglasses agreed to expand the campaign, encouraging the public to take part in the initiative. Collection bins have been installed at 17 locations1 across Dubai until July 4 where people may donate their old sunglasses. As an incentive, donors will receive a voucher entitling them to a 40% discount off the purchase cost of a new pair of sunglasses at La Moda Sunglasses stores across the UAE. Once collected, La Moda will repair the donated sunglasses, sanitise and put them in protective cases before distributing them through the Smartlife Foundation to labourers.

Commenting on the announcement, Suvo Sarkar, Senior Executive Vice President & Group Head – Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Emirates NBD said: “We are very happy to offer our valued customers a token of appreciation in the spirit of Ramadan. Emirates NBD has always strived to offer rewards that complement the lifestyles of our customers and we see no better opportunity than to partner with one of the country’s leading digital transportation apps to offer a highly convenient and widely popular service during the holy month. Emirates NBD and Uber have successfully collaborated in the past to add great value to the residents of the UAE and we are positive that this campaign will bring a lot of happiness to our customers.”

“As consumers demand more from their personal technology applications, it is increasingly important for organisations to work together in order to provide more innovative offerings. Our partnership with Emirates NBD is a great example of how we can bring two industries together to offer even more convenience to consumers,” said Christopher Free, Uber UAE GM.

Emirates NBD’s announcement today is strategically aligned with the bank’s constant strides toward being the leader in digital banking and preferred in-app payment partner in the GCC. With over 80 per cent of the bank’s financial transactions and requests conducted through digital channels, Emirates NBD and Uber’s Ramadan promotion will appeal to a majority of its customers that use the popular app regularly for transportation.
