Emirates NBD and Promise of a Generation Announce new Initiative for Young Women in the UAE: e7 daughters of the emirates – banat al emarat

Dubai, UAE – March 12, 2015— Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, and Promise of a Generation (POAG), a seven-year old UAE-based community dialogue forum, announced today a partnership to launch the first e7—daughters of the emirates – initiative, offering 35 young women from each of the seven emirates the chance to represent their emirate by putting their ideas into action in their communities.

Fulfilling the UAE leaders’ vision to encourage women to contribute to society, the e7 is an annual platform to unlock the team potential of girls and young women in the UAE to have a positive impact on their society.

At an International Women’s Day event, POAG co-founder and co-visionary of the e7, Adela Acevedo Sarna, said she was “delighted to announce Emirates NBD’s support of e7 on the day that we celebrate the 107th International Women’s Day. This year’s global theme is ‘Make it Happen,’ and we feel that together both Emirates NBD and POAG are well poised to make such an ambitious initiative ‘happen,’ fulfilling the promise of the daughters of the emirates.”

“We are very honored and excited to be part of the e7, bringing together women from each of the seven emirates to further our society,” said Lubna Qassim, Executive Vice President, Group General Counsel & Company Secretary of Emirates NBD.  “This is the first initiative of its kind for young women, bringing the vision of our leaders to life.  Emirates NBD is a firm believer in the potential of the daughters of the emirates, and we are proud to be partners in the very first e7,” said Lubna.

e7 is a network and development experience for young women (ages 18-25) in the UAE, focusing on Inspiration, Training, Connection and Commitment to community projects. Emirates NBD will play a crucial role in the financial literacy program for the e7 participants. “The year-long e7 aims to achieve the vision of our emirates together through high-impact community-driven initiatives,” Acevedo Sarna said.

“It is important that young women in the UAE have encouragement to contribute to our society in ways that positively impact our community,” she added. “We have wonderful programs for females who want to start businesses, and the e7 is being brought to life to inspire and connect a network of young women who wish to start meaningful community-service projects.”

The e7 initiative kicks off with a 3-day summit April 9-11, 2015 in Dubai, bringing together five female participants from each of the seven emirates. The 35 participants will discuss and design innovative ideas inspired by POAG's pillars of action – culture & heritage, education & career, enhancing opportunity for the less fortunate, the environment & health, and family & women leadership.

"It is essential that we encourage and motivate women seeking ways to give back to their communities.  Our leadership puts a strong emphasis on civic duty, and the e7 encourages young women to contribute to the betterment of our society not just through their careers, but through community-driven and inspired initiatives,” said Acevedo Sarna.
